Description:

Kelvin has been in his current foster home for four weeks. For the first two weeks in his
foster home, he would not go up or down stairs and had to be carried. He has since;
however, started to use the stairs with confidence. He started taking joint compounds
and one medication for his arthritis which have made a remarkable difference in his
agility. It is believed he has limited vision with his one eye and that, combined with
starting arthritis supplements, required a bit of time for Kelvin to feel confident to do
stairs. Today he uses the stairs like a pro. He is a very good passenger when riding in
a car and walks well on a leash. He loves to go for walks with his foster’s dogs and gets
along great with other dogs. It is not known how he is with cats. Unlike most male dogs
who hike their leg to urinate, Kelvin squats.

Kelvin likes resting in his dog bed on the floor and has not tried to jump up on furniture
or the bed. He has not been kenneled either at night or when left alone and has not
bothered anything in the house. He is not interested in toys. He is housebroken and
has had no accidents staying with his foster family. He sleeps through the night and is
ready to go outside to do his business when he awakes in the morning. He has a few
times walked to the door and whined to be let outside when he had to go to the
bathroom. He does not bark. Even when his foster’s dogs start barking when they hear
something he has not joined in.

Kelvin is a bit fussy when it comes to eating preferring wet food mixed with kibble that
has been moistened. He is scheduled for a dental cleaning in May which should
alleviate any issues he is having chewing harder foods and treats. He loves his treats
which for now are soft and chewy versus hard crunch type. Bacon flavored chews are
his favorite along with beef sticks.

Kelvin can get startled easily in situations where there is a lot of chaos or jerky
movement therefore small children are not recommended. He is great with visitors and
greets them freely wanting a pet on the head. He loves to be petted and have behind
his ears scratched. When he first came to his foster home, he was somewhat protective
when approached but has since mellowed out now that he knows he can trust you and
what you are going to do. Kelvin will require an owner who can be patient with building
his trust and willing to help him trust you. He is a loving dog that wants nothing more to
be loved.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
