Here is an update from Okie's foster family!

Okami is the SWEETEST Boy! Our family loves him to bits! He is always happy! He gets along with the kids (teens), the cats and our dogs (a chihuahua and a husky). He is definitely a dominate male but learned his place in the pack order within a couple of days. Our female husky still rules the roost and he understands this. I think he does so well because our dogs and cats are fairly non reactive, and just want to be mellow and live in harmony.

He is a well mannered pup and listens to commands very well. He loves to play ball and will jump straight up to snag it right out of the air when you throw it for him! He will always return the ball & is happy to exchange it for an alternate toy, but we are working on the command "drop" so we don't have to do the toy exchange. He's also good at playing tug of war and is getting better with stopping the game when I say so. He is a working dog and always wants a job to do.

He is completely house trained and will go to the door when he needs to go out. He is not destructive in anyway (except to stuffed chew toys), and shares his food bowl willingly with the rest of his pack. We are also working on the command "gentle" as he doesn't seem to understand that there are fingers attached to the treat I am giving him. He is learning and doing better with this each day. He is only kenneled when we leave for work and school during the day. At night he sleeps on the floor next to my bed on his dog bed, or occasionally on my bed near my feet.

He is learning to walk nicely with a gentle leader and is walked 1 1/2-2 miles a day currently. He is doing great with meeting strangers too!

He is VERY intelligent. He is great with understand when play time is over and it is time to mellow out and be calm. He is also a total ham, and runs in to wake the children of the house each morning by pouncing on them and licking their faces. You can see his funny little smile in many of the pictures posted. He is always looking to me to tell him what to do next and will do whatever I tell him to do instantly. He is a pleaser without an ounce of stubbornness in him. He has also learned to "Husky Howl" just like his foster sister, Storm.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
